We had the opportunity to visit Fortune Companies and hear from owner Scott Pitcher, a local entrepreneur whose vision and determination have helped breathe new life into buildings throughout Kokomo.
A Taylor High School graduate, Scott began his career at Chrysler, became an electrical apprentice and eventually started his own electrical contracting business. But he knew he wanted something more.
“I wanted to build things.”
Today, through Fortune Companies, Scott has turned that passion into a full-service real estate business focused on revitalizing historic properties, preserving architectural character, and transforming old buildings into functional spaces for the future.
Some of his most valuable advice had nothing to do with real estate.
📚 Never stop learning. Scott admitted he knew nothing about architecture when he started. Rather than letting that stop him, he read everything he could get his hands on. Every time he explores something new, he makes it a priority to educate himself.
“I never quit educating myself.”
💪 Set the standard. Scott believes leadership starts with work ethic. He sets the example for his employees every day and empowers them to think critically, make decisions, and solve problems independently.
🏙️ Invest in your community. Despite his success, Scott never considered building his future anywhere else.
“I always knew I was staying in Kokomo. This is my home.”
Scott also spoke candidly about the resilience required to be an entrepreneur. From recessions to COVID, his business has weathered challenges because of a willingness to adapt, work hard, and keep moving forward.
“You’ve got to be tough!”
Thank you, Scott, for sharing your story and perspective!
